Bridal is always synonymous with Spring and this year it’s no exception, so it is natural to check in on the category and see what’s new. We’ve previously reported how Best Buy quietly launched its registry (and have since started to promote it), and we’re seeing a renewed emphasis on a wide cross section of retailers trying to capture the wedding couple’s interest beyond kitchen electrics and home. We’ve seen “green” registries, charity tie-ins, home buying crowdfunding and action sports (because nothing says we love each more than repelling down a mountain). This trend signals the dissemination of gift dollars into wider categories, meaning that traditional home and departments stores will need to up their games as couples opt for gifts that complement their lifestyles rather than just setting up their homes.
